Day 1 & 2

Day 1 & 2

Hi guys! I've arrived! Dad dropped me off at Heathrow on Monday evening and I was fortunate enough to sleep for most of the flight. When I arrived in Johannesburg a car met me and I was driven straight to the office, I got there for about 9am local time and met my new boss and colleagues. There are three of us who have come from abroad, the other two are girls, one from India the other from Belgium. The best aspects of working for McKinsey were confirmed early on when we went upstairs for breakfast; Earl Grey tea and freshly made smoothies! Beautiful!

In between tapping away at my laptop I received my rental car, a sweet little Ford Focus, as well as my tickets to 2 of the Lions matches. I left the office around 7pm for the hotel. I'm on the 23rd floor in a beautiful room with great city views...including one of the Lions coaches (see above). That night I went for supper with my boss and had a yummy bit of ostrich steak before walking back to the hotel via the shopping mall here, the most expensive square mile in all of Africa. As we walked through the hotel bar we happened to bump into James Hook, Adam Jones and Alun-Wyn Jones having a drink with some other guys from the Lions team....awesome! It was straight to bed for me after watching highlights from Roland Garros.

Today has been equally busy. I got to the office early and after lunch was picked up by an old school South African called Michael who runs the serviced apartments I will be staying in after this week. The place looks fantastic and I'm really looking forward to moving out of this hotel, however nice it is. At the apartments I will have my laundry done for me twice a week and the maid will even do my washing up...crazy! The apartment is in a 'village' for business men in Jo'burg and includes Africa's largest gym and a handful of good restaurants and bars.

After work my prayers were answered as I went to play squash with two colleagues. It's tough playing at this altitude and I'm looking forward to upping my physical fitness over the coming three months.

So things are going really well so far. I'm shattered and have just ordered room service to eat in bed while I watch the champions league final. The above photos are of my hotel room. I'll look forward to giving you a glipse of the car and apartment come the weekend. Thanks for all your lovely emails and messages. God bless y'all. x
